Repair question . Jack Casady bass

I just got this bass in a trade off TB. The anchors for the bridge are uprooting themselves. The person I got it from wasn’t aware of it when he shipped it. And I believe him so that’s not the premise of this post.

my question…how can or should I remedy this? Would it be as simple as tapping them back down and possibly gluing them back in? Any other suggestions? Also, I now understand why everyone hates this bridge and if I keep it I will most likely replace it with something better.

Yes, you can just tap them back in. They will be more secure if you glue them though. If you raise the center post so the bridge tilts back slightly, that should prevent those inserts popping out again. Also, using the lightest strings you can stand will help too (less tension, equals less pull on the posts).

I don't think there is anything better you can use on there. That's virtually the same bridge I have on my Gibson SG; I haven't experienced any problems with it. YMMV

If you use glue, remember to use conductive glue on the post nearest the bridge (edit: pots) - there's a ground wire at the bottom it needs to connect electrically with.

Or just build the hole up a little with a piece of aluminum foil and then tap it back in. Then you'll be sure not to lose conductivity.

My JC had that going on as well. It’s exactly as sissy sed: the bridge needs to have the front post a bit higher. People don’t know this and lever out the studs.

I also swore I’d replace the bridge but it works exactly as it should once I set it up properly so ima not MESS.

Typical problem on a JC. I’ve had mine 8 years and no problem. I tilted mine day one.

Get that tilt going. Once you get your bridge height set, just wind the front post up, watching the ears on the back posts so they don’t begin putting pressure on the post grooves, but get it as high as possible. The saddles are far enough back that this doesn’t really change string height.

Yes these bridges are a bit of a PIA. But they do the job and look pretty cool.

What everyone else said. If you want to replace the bridge go ahead, there’s some great options out there but I have a JC, an EB3, an EB1 (all Epi) and a Hondo with that bridge and they’re all set up with the front post up a bit higher then the 2 back posts and no issues so far.

Or, do this:

I epoxied the studs in (be sure to deal correctly with ground wire).
The bass roars!

Every JC bass I have seen had this going on.
