Replace DX5's in SR305DX

I'm in the process of saving up for a new bass, particularly, the Stringray 5 HS. It's not a dire need right now, but I really can't wait to get it. As I am waiting I figured I will upgrade my current bass, an Ibanez SR305DX (I know, a huge jump in bass quality,) in the mean time. I'd like to replace the pickups in this bass with something more geared towards my style. I play mostly indie rock (Link Removed) and do session work for singer/songwriter and worship artists a lot. I'd love a versatile tone that can satisfy the rock element AND be able to sound great in the studio. I've had this bass for almost 5 years now but only now have I thought about tweaking it. So the real question is:

What pickups do you all recommend? I'm looking at Bartolini's after hearing good things about them, but is there a set in particular that you think stands out above the rest? Or should I go with EMG's to achieve the sound I want?

ALSO, what about putting an Aguilar pre-amp in this thing? I love the way Aguilar's sound and would not be against approaching that tone.

Is any/all of this possible, any comments or concerns?
