Replace nut?

Can't help if we don't know what the problem is or even what kind of bass. Need more info, although at this point I think it's safe to say that you have no idea what you're doing and should take it to a repair shop and let them do a setup on it. Best $50 to $75 you will ever spend. Seriously.
