Ive been playing through a traben phoenix for a few years now amoungst other basses and Im not completely happy with the tone. I play through a Ampeg SVT4 and Ampeg 6x10. The stock pickups are: traben custom combo and one humbucker and one j-bass style and the electronics is a traben t3 active pre-amp. It has 3 EQ, volume and blend.
Im looking for something which can handle really low end well without it sounding synthetic and not make the high end sound too tinny. I predominantly play metal but I also play rock, funk, rnb etc so Im not expecting to find a setup that is perfect for all these.
I use D'addario EPS170-5 pro steels and have tried around a few other string types but just cant seem to get a good sound.

I was looking at possibly Aguilar or Seymour Duncan but I really dont know much about the electronics and pickups on basses.

If anyone can offer any advice, would be appreciated.
Cheers
