Replacement for aguilar super double, nordstrand or aero?

Hi,

I would like to replace the Aguilar super double pickups on my first custom bass with neck-through construction, 5 pieces maple neck with wenge stringers, maple tone block, birdseye maple board, swamp ash body wings, walnut top, Delano sonar-3 pre-amp and brass hipshot A bridge&brass nut.

Aguilar super doubles are great. But I want a dual coils' with series mode (1) that can be split to single-coil' and (2) with more clarity and works well for both the series mode and sing-coil mode in the mix with this bass. I feel Aguilar super doubles sound a little bit wired in the mix with this bass.

I find Nordy and Aero's are good pickups but I have no experience with them. Anyone who can share your experience with me or give me some advice?

I also noticed that space between two poles is narrow in Nordstrand's than Aguilar's. And I feel the positions of poles are also different among these three. Could Aero or Nordy custom the same position as Aguilar's? Because I have a stunning pair of wood covers matching the claro walnut burl top of my bass, I don't want to throw them away.

I know for a fact that Nordstrand can hook you up with a custom job like that, and I'd bet dollars to donuts that Aero can too.

Question are your Aguilar Super Doubles 4 or 5 string PUs ? If they are 5s and not damaged would you be interested in selling them ? I have some in my Yamaha TRB Oh my they are the Sh#@ ! I want to install some in another bass I have they are hard to find. Let me know please.....

I’d just shoot the Nordstrand guys an email and ask what they’d recommend. Generally, pickups that sound good in series can sound weak in single coil mode. Splittable pickups tend to be those optimized for parallel operation... It may be a matter of shooting for the middle ground, or maybe that would be neither here nor there...

I think if you send them your pickup covers, they can wind pickups to fit them just right...
