Replacement P Bass PUP discussion/recommendations

I've become a fan of the Fender 59 Custom Shop pickup. It comes in the Mike Dirnt Roadworn

Pretty sure there are other models too. I know Klein makes a 59

For me, the Fralin standard-wind nails this (though you can get his also with a lower wind which I've never tried). They are super clear, balanced, and "airy" - none of that muddled too-thick mids. I use them on basses with ooold flats and also with nickel round and they sound "classic" to my ears. I also think the Fender 63's work pretty well in the same way but compared to the Fralins they sounded a little harsh or brittle. The Fralins are refined, as good as it gets IMHO.

Personally I think the FCS 62 nails it, the best job Fender has done "nailing" their own classic sound.

But, unless you count the years in the 60s when Fender originally nailed that sound, Fralin has been nailing that classic Fender sound that everybody seems to want these days, longer than Fender has. Typical Fender, late to their own game.

Definitely can't go wrong with Fralin in that respect. You know you're going to get a classic rock, blues and motown sound out of their product.

I have a CS 59 I keep JUST IN CASE but my only p right now is a Dingwall Super P so it sits on the shelf bidding it's time

I just put in a DiMarzio Sixties P. Sounds great. Clear, punchy, and much better lows over the Player Series stock pickup.

The rounded metal pickup cover is also extremely comfortable to rest your thumb on, too.

Any notion of where to get these aftermarket other than purchasing the whole Dirnt bass outright? Recommend a close second? I've read Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and also the Fender Original '62 - thanks in advance for any input. I, too, love the '59 Dirnt but had to give up my model b/c it was 12+lbs and getting to be too much to play other than sitting down.
