Replacement parts

I have a Promethean P110 combo and I think the tweeter has died. I went to the Ibanez site but it's not very helpful/useful or maybe I'm too thick to find what I need. Anybody know how to order a replacement?

Take out the tweeter and see if it has any brand name or part number on it. If not, call Ibanez and ask who made the tweeter for them.

You'll likely be able to find it elsewhere cheaper than buying dirctly from Ibanez.

Better still is to contact the company that actually made it and get a replacement diaphram for it.

You need to solder, or have a friend who can, to replace the diaphram. It's the part inside the tweeter that actually burns out. You re-use the magnet and horn lense.

If you can do that, the diaphram should be $10-$20.

If it happens to be a piezo tweeter, you can get those for like $3. No taking it apart, just replacing it with the new one.

Ok, cool, I can solder, no problem. I just thought I could take care of it here at work, you know finding the part and ordering it, no muss no fuss. I'll take it apart tonight and see what happens. Thanks for the information.

Ok I removed the tweeter and measures resistance. Tweeter is shorted. Is there a way to determine if the output impedance of the crossover is good or bad?

Remember the coil will have a DCR of a few ohms. You should also be careful how you measure the resistance as you could damage a good diaphragm.

Coil is a dead short. I am using a high impedance meter with a low voltage, seems ok. I'd like to avoid replacing it and have circuit be the problem and blow another tweeter.

Anybody know where to get replacement parts? Ibanez website is incomplete and they haven't responded to a couple of email requests. If you have a source let me know.
