Replacement pickups, pre amps for EBMM?

I guess MusicMan doesnt want people to duplicate their product.

So, what are some viable options then?

Pickup, 3 way switch, preamp

Without having to modify the body and still keep the music man sound?

You most certainly can get new parts from EBMM - if you're replacing existing, dead parts. A friend of mine recently replaced the preamp in his Stingray - with a new one from EBMM.

That is correct. But... you have to send them the genuine part that is not working correctly, and then they'll sell you a new replacement. They won't sell you a new part without getting the old one back.

Where can I get new, genuine Musicman replacement parts ie. pickup, pre amp and any other part for that matter?

Looked around and all I could find isaftermarket...Nordstrand, Aguilar etc.
Seymore Duncan makes a replacement pickup. Its in there basslines line.

Is it equal to the MusicMan pickup in sound, build quality etc.?

I think so.

bought a SR5 a while back that came with Seymour Duncan preamp and pickup.

For kicks, I tried a Nordstrand pickup and John East Preamp.....it was more flexible, but the tonal improvement wasn't as much as I had hoped. Don't get me wrong, it sounded good and better.....but the SD stuff was just as good....much cheaper too.

I called MusicMan today and they told me what you said.....they want the old ones back.

$125 for the pickup
$95 for the pre amp

So what to do....

Does anyone suggest aftermarket over OEM?

I do have the old parts to send back. I have never been unhappy with MusicMan stuff, but I have never tried other pups/pre amps either.

I have a Nordstrand MM pickup and Aguilar preamp in my MPG and the combo sounds killer! But, if either part died in my Stingray, I would definitely replace it with stock.

Trust me when I say that when it comes to Music Man, go OEM. You will have much better re-sale value. If it was something like Ibanez, I would say go aftermarket but with Music Man basses, if you ever decide to sell, there are a ton more people that will buy one with nothing but OEM parts on it rather than if it has been modded out with aftermarket parts.
