replacement speaker for ampeg SVT 410HE

I have a SLM era SVT 410HE (500 watts, 8ohm) that arrived with a hole through one of the speakers.
This is an ebay deal gone sour and I am trying to determine if I demand a discount to replace the speaker
if the sound will be OK.

Will a new Eminence speaker 86-032-01 match up OK with the other 3 original stock speakers.
Once the new speaker breaks in will there much of a tone difference?

I think they are 32ohms. What about matching wattage with the new speaker?

right. I was quoted from a authorized service center the speaker above is the replacement.
My question is will the new speaker sound noticeably different? The others being older and from a different era of manufacturing.
Should I just return the whole old cabinet rather than messing with replacing one driver?

This is a very good question. If yours was made before 2000, a new Eminence China 86-032-01 will likely match up very well. If it was made between 2000 and 2006, it won't. SLM speakers were considerably darker sounding during that time frame. You can date it by clicking here and scrolling down the page.

Thanks JimmyM, I was hoping you would chime in. Unfortunately, the unofficalampeg.com site seems to be down. Maybe it's just temporary.

the other numbers on the speaker sticker were:
10324 32ohm
67-97291129 G2

Mean anything to you?

1997. You're in the clear. I can't promise a dead nuts match to the SLM speakers of that era, but they're very close.

Also, I just clicked on my link for U-Ampeg and it worked for me.

And you do have the option of reconing your old speaker, although it'll be close to what you might pay for a new one.

I have one more question. These new versions are 100 watts. The cab says it's 500 watts. Are the original speakers a little higher wattage, or are they 100 watts also and ampeg had fibbed the rating a little bit?

The 410he has always been rated at 400w RMS power handling that I can remember. If it were rated as most cabs are, it would likely be 600w, as that's the point at which the voice coils will blow, and the 400w rating is approx. how much you can put into it before it starts to distort. Don't know what the story is with your cab saying 500w, but honestly, it's not a very significant difference in practice, so the new speaker should be fine with the old ones.
