I was given a Yorkville Bassmaster 100 when I bought my MIK Squier P bass because the amp's speaker farts pretty bad at higher volumes when the bass setting is at about 4 or higher. Anyway, anyone have any advice on a cheap replacement speaker? A local Kijiji ad has a "used, excellent condition" Peavy Scorpion for $64. I always thought Scorpions were guitar speakers (enter fond memories of Peavy Bandit amp here), but I've read ONE review that said this one makes a good bass speaker; it's a Scorpion SP-15825. Will it fit (the original "farting" speaker and Scorpion are both 15" in diameter)? Is it overkill for a 100W amp? I must admit I get confused about ohms, the different types of wattage references, etc. TIA!

The 15 inch Scorpions were suited for bass guitar as well as regular guitar.
Normally we'd jump in here and say that ideally, you would measure your bass cab and use a program like WinISD to predict whether a certain speaker would "work" in a given cab. By "work" we mean it would have a fairly flat frequency response curve.
However, the Scorpion is fairly forgiving of box dimensions, IMHO, and I think it would do fine. I dunno if I'd give $85 for a used Scorpion 15 though, see if they'll take $50.
And if the speaker farts when the bass is turned above 4...don't turn it above 4...
