Double Bass replacing cork ring

The cork ring in the endpin came loose and was rolling around in my bass. I had to take it to the shop for a setup anyway, so I asked them to replace it which they did. About three rehearsals later, it came out again ... I really don't feel like lugging it back to the shop for something so small, so I'd love to replace it myself, but I'll be damned if I can figure out how to do it without removing the whole endpin (which I'm not comfortable doing). This feels like one of those weird little puzzles where you have to figure out how to make a couple of impossibly shaped things fit together. :) Any ideas?
