Replacing Passive Pickups with Active.

Hey PPl,
I play an Ibanez Tele bass copy from the 70's
Its running 1 single coil lipstick pickup. I love this bass as I put a lot of time into refinishing the body etc. and they are getting very hard to come by these days. While Im quite happy with the tone etc. (it actually has a lot of bottom end for just the one pickup), I bought a used Berg 4x10 cab today and while testing the guy I bought it off plugged in his bass an Ibanez with custom Active pickups and it pretty much left mine for dead in terms of tone and output, Since I am pretty much clueless in terms of electronics just wanted to get some tips on wether I could replace my single coil with a set of actives and what would be involved. Any advice will be helpful. Would it be worth doing? Or should I just enjoy it for what it is and shop around for another active bass?.
