Replacing Pre-Amp Tubes

Was just curious if anyone here has any experience replacing the pre-amp tube in an SWR 750X? I have done it plenty of times on my Super RedHead but the 750 is different monster altogether....(so it appears)....Am I in for a trip to my local repair shop or is it a DIY operation?

Why would you want to replace them? What isn’t the amp doing that it should??

There is a persistent rumour that preamp valves never fail, but my last testing session disagrees.

Of course pre valves do fail just not as often as most folks think.

I’m just wondering what has lead the OP to want to replace them.

Most folks think they don't, but they fail much more often than that. Get a fair few dead out the box. I think its down to techs taking every opportunity to charge for a full revalve. Dying pre seems to be the main issue that comes to me when people actually bring an malfunctioning amp to me when it starts malfunctioning.
