replacing tuning keys

My old old yamaha bass has tuning pegs that rattle like crazy. The model is BB200. They are big hole pegs kind of like fender, but they are only held in with 3 small screws. I know its the pegs because I can hit a hard note with my hands on the keys and its gone.

Are replacements standard or not

Any chance you can post some headstock pics fore and aft? I'm curious as to what tuner component is rattling with 100 lbs of tension.

My thoughts are that since this is a true p bass copy that replacement fender tuners might work. this bass has a lawsuit headstock (i think) and i think a bad ass bridge would direct swap

this guitar plays and sounds great except for the tuning keys and that area of the bass

Don't swap anything...yet. Couple of suggestions / questions:

Have you removed the suspect tuning key for inspection? Even without string tension, things should be tight (no excessive play). Seeing there are 3-4 mounting screws, there should be no play within the hole.

Are the ferrules secure?

IIRC, that particular tuning key should be tension-variable. The "collar" directly below the tuning button threads into the tuner body. Are there 2 holes on either side of the collar? I have similar tuners and have had the collars loosen with time. There's a special wrench which fits the 2 holes or you can use a well-padded pair of pliers.
