Request for info about this bass....

Hello. I have a friend who sent me these pics and explained that a buddy of his long ago gave him this bass. The buddy had painted the pick guard but the guitar was otherwise unmolested.

He asked me what I knew about this bass and I confessed that I don't know squat. Does anyone have one of these and is there anything that stands out about them?

Yeah this. I've got one that got rattle-canned robin's egg blue, kinda pastel Easter Goth hehe.

I guess the only thing that makes it different than a regular Thunderbird is the flat black finish and the Roman numerals of the 12th fret

Any idea on what it might be worth? I get the sense that he wants to sell it .

Just don't tell him to check out the BS prices on Reverb or he might get the wrong idea.
If he decides to keep it, though, tell him to get rid of that pickguard!

For sure a Goth Thunderbird. I bought one used literally just before COVID for $150. That pickguard has been swapped out, they came with a black pickguard, not red, if it matters at all. Those who like the look of the "Goth" will want it all black. Those who just want a Thunderbird won't care.
The Goth came with a mahogany body and neck (vs alder body and maple neck on the standard) and also had different pickups, more "growly" than the standard Thunderbird pickups.
I have since traded mine for a Vintage Sunburst Standard Thunderbird, so I don't have the Goth any more.

With Post-COVID pricing, it's probably in the $350-400 range, depending on what you can get someone to pay for it with a red pickguard on it. I see a LOT of them listed for $400+, so that tells me they aren't moving very fast at that price.
