request for pedal reviewers

If you want to know how an effect will sound on an ERB, try to imagine it sounding flabby and flaccid and that's what the low B will sound like, then imagine it sounding weedy and pathetic and that's how it'll sound above the G. It's pretty much the same deal as playing an ERB without effects.

Also, if you don't like how a pedal behaves with an active instrument, simple mods can be made to raise the low impedance to high(load potentiometer in series with the input, LCR circuit, input buffer etc.) and again, I would be more than glad to explain how to do this

I don't but I could. The reason is my 5 is active [this is also my 1# bass] and most people are more familiar with Ps and Js so that is what I normally.......do....................... I do have a P set up as a Subcontra though so I might pull it out next time for fun

well, if you put a little active 5 into the mix i know that'd help me out too. while actives certainly don't all sound the same, hearing an active instrument in through the pedal would certainly help in cases like have been mentioned before about certain pedals not working well with the low output impedance.

This is one that seems to get referenced here and there. I never actually made it, but the transformer/inductor thing seems to have worked out for a bunch of people in or before fuzz boxes.

And, I really gotta agree with BC's wooly mammoth comment... not better or worse. Just different. A few peole on here love it after active electronics. I didn't like it after most pedals, but my piezo 5 string actually worked pretty simlarly to my passive P.

(and as to the OP, I'd go into more depth about the low B in my reviews, but my B's kinda floppy and poorly defined. I don't think extended range response from the pedal is something I'd specifically mention unless there was a problem though... but I will keep in mind for anything else I review. )

Huge +1 to that. I tend to just go with a solo'd P pickup because its a good tonal reference and I find that kind of thing more usefull than some crazy unique pickup configuration or preamp setting in judging an effect from clips.

I'm going to take this a step further and say that the model of bass should be included, not just the string count. It only takes a second to add it can be a lot of help to the reader.

heh thanks . my professional jobs have always been in comp programming, though, so i never did use my e.e. degree professionally (from georgia tech - go jackets! ) but at least i know what a rectifier is heh.
