Reroute Ampeg 4*10 HLF cab for higher resistance

Hey.
I'm thinking of getting a Ampeg svt 4*10 HLF cab because it seems reliable and i kind of like the Ampeg tone. Unfortunately my amp (LAB L4) is constructed for working at 8 ohm and the HLF is 4 ohm. Do you think i could reroute the signal path inside the cab, so that it would have a 8 ohm resistance instead of 4?
I believe that the HLF is the same as the 4*10 HE except for the bass port. I know that the HE is 8 ohm so wouldn't you think that reorouting the HLF would be possible?

The HLF has totally different drivers to the HE. If it contains four 4 ohm drivers wired series parallel then you could wire it all series for 16 ohms or all parallel for 1 ohm. If it contains four 16 ohm drivers then you could wire it series/parallel for 16 ohms or all series for 64 ohms!

You can't halve or double the impedance of any cab without changing the drivers themselves, only options are quartering or quadrupling.

The Lab Series L4 is a solid state amp and should be able to do 4 ohms, unless it has an output transformer that I don't know about (doubtful), or some other reason like it'll burn up the head. So many SS heads are 4 ohm safe that it would surprise me to find one that isn't.

BTW, nice amp! Used to play one of those a lot at a local music store back in the 70's. Pretty good amp for its day.

Looks like i need to test the amp out rather then destroying a good cab.
Guess ill drag my amp down to the local music shop and test it out on a 4 ohm cab. I Found L4 cheap so it's mostly a "fun" buy... Sadly theres not much info on it on the web.

Again im a newbie to this forum stuff, but i'm really surprised with your quick and detailed responses. Thx!
 
Yeah i know... I'm just not shure about what impedence the amp was designed for. Some people write 8 ohm and others 4. But if i could test it out with different cabs i might be able to hear it. With the "destroying that cab" somment, i ment to open it and rewire it. But thank's for the heads up.
