Resurrecting a '60's short-scale bass

I think he's talking about the filter between the brain and the fingers on the keyboard

I think he was talking about ones social filter - i.e. Choosing Whether to speak ones mind etc...

Well, that's certainly true! But I know tb has filters for certain words if typed in - it removes them in the posting process. Pictures are trickier and could probably get posted regardless of what it is. (until someone sees it and reports it) The only other area of concern is an offensive statement, whether political, religious or just plain disrespectful to others. (part of being encouraged not to head thread posts with the word "hate" this or that) At least that seems generally true in most all forums I would think.

I also noticed that very quick join and ban. Back when I was a moderator in a different forum in the early 2000s, we would have a common problem of people that we banned simply rejoining under a new username. This one strikes me like something along those lines, because of the posters quick familiarity with TB customs.

At any rate, we should all be careful that this conversation does not start to question a moderator and or their decisions. Bans all around! :D:laugh:

Oh I know, that's why I mentioned it in my first inquiry post. So far no ones questioning a moderators decision - just noticing the circumstance that occurred in my thread and wondering what happened - didn't go looking for it. :)

A possibly illuminating reply on another thread that was briefly visited. I frankly hesitate to mention it, but no questioning (I fully support and don't envy our no-doubt not-tireless (but managing to seem that way) moderators for helping to keep the place civil.)

Yep - back to our regularly scheduled program....

Strings arrived and are on the bass. Fender 40's. A few finalized pics -

Of course I forgot to put on the cover as the sun was perfect - oh well, at least it shows the hybrid bridge. I guess these fully adjustable brass saddles aren't available any more. (Wilkinson?) I got it so long ago I forget who made it. I prefer playing it w/o the cover (palm muting) but the cover looks good in pics.

That's my finish on the oak chair (from years ago) - it's what I do. This is a good pic of the bass - just what it looks like in person.

Hard to get a good pic of the back - it's really subtle and pretty. This pic only starts to describe it. There's colours you can't see in the pic.

...and another attempt at showing the cool 'barber pole' grain pattern on the mahogany neck.

Love your avatar - is that you?

Hah, no it's not me. IIRC it came from some form of 'silliest avatar' competition in OT about 7 years ago - it's stuck around ever since!

I may live to regret this, but this is me:

Absolutely love this build by the way; been watching progress keenly. I haven't done much building myself, but you've inspired me to do a similar thing with a Lake Placid Blue Jazz bass at some point. Although, it's surprisingly hard to find Jazz bodies in plywood nowadays; even the cheapy cheap copies are all basswood or alder!

Hah! One never knows what past photo will come back to haunt you but I don't think you have to worry! Your avatar looks a little like Noel Redding when he played with Jimi! (or at least someone inspired by his look then!)

:) Thanks! A friend made a maple ply Tele body with the ply's striped over the face and back top to bottom which ended up to be pretty heavy. I think he glued the layers together himself. What is more common to be found on older cheap bodies is a core of alder or mahogany with veneers on the top and back. I've seen when people strip off the finish and it never looks good natural.
