Retirement Basses: Rics or Rays?

Altho I've had a Ric, and shoulda kept it... and Stingray's are, imo, more... everything pretty much

Music Man Basses are modern active basses recently upgraded and re designed to make them lighter, more comfortable, with better headroom from the preamp (18v vs 9) and lightweight gears.

Lightweight, well built and versatile.
I feel like you have to love the Ric enough that nothing else is even in the running. They're dogs of instruments feel-wise. I love the look and sometimes the sound.
When I'm old I'm only going to play the comfiest basses.
Edit: Having said that play both and then pick the one that inspires more or that you sound better on. Maybe record yourself and listen back.

Of the 2 choices, I’d say Rickenbacker. (Always my first choice, so no surprise!
) You already have Fenderish sounds and playing feel covered with your present collection.
Also, rather than a Ray, I’d opt for a GL Kiloton. The passive but powerful MFD pickup sounds fantastic, and has a 3-way toggle selector for different modes. I regret selling my US Kiloton, and hope to snag another one with my preferred neck specs someday.

If I can only get one, it will be a Stingray. This Classic played great, the action just needs to be raised a bit.
I’d take that Special 5 Honey Burst in the OP over the Classic 4.
I may be making a move on it in the near future.

I those were my only two options, a Stingray Special 5HH, probably in the White Dazzler. I've never tried a Rick I even remotely liked; plus I think they're completely aesthetically and ergonomically challenged.
That said, there's a heap of others that I'd try first, even if I did a bit of road tripping to be able to do it. You're retiring, right, so you've have time to do it and it'll get you out and active and maybe the missus would enjoy the experience for other reasons. You never know what you might pick up in a store and fall in love with.

I'm excited to read your NBD post (if you choose to make one) in the near future. MIA Stingrays are great basses, especially when they're in the right hands.

I sort of have the same "problem" as you.
I'm not playing much these days and am several years from retirement fun. But those are the two I would most like to pick up! 
Oh and a Wal! and a Status, and a ....Stay healthy!
