Reverb prices

I think a lot of reverb sellers are honest people who sell the odd guitar at a resonable price. But theyre probably victims too. Their guitars are being bought up by the swindlers who add 20% and try and flip it. Theyre the ones who have dozens of guitars for sale at exorbitant prices. See i knew id suss it in the end.

Every time I sell on reverb I end up pocketing about $200 less than my total sale price, due to ridiculous shipping and reverb fees. This leads me to inflate the price more than I would selling here on Talkbass. Even selling on talkbass has bit me in the wallet with shipping costs, seems like everyone lives in California when shipping is free.

You can think of it as greed of the seller if you want, but are they required to give away their instrument for what they deem a loss due to your opinion? It doesn’t work like that and we are all sorry for your hurt feelings. We miss good deals too.

I sold a bunch of stuff on Reverb a few years ago. I swear everyone was in some tiny town on the East Coast. I think I had listed shipping as $50 for the 48 states, but I’d take a hit shipping to Maine and South Carolina, etc. I think one buyer out of the 15 things I sold was on the West coast, and he was all the way up in Washington.

Sold a bass on Reverb recently.

I didn't price the listing based on what similar basses had sold for over the past 6 months - I priced it in line with what other people were currently selling it for. With all of the recent inflation you're effectively ripping yourself off if you price on historical data - you have to price with the market - it unfortunately is what it is.

If you sell lower, you're having to buy the next thing at a higher price, again shooting yourself in the foot. It's best to just avoid buying gear right now if you're not comfortable with the market. Then again... prices could continue to climb. No one has a crystal ball.

Regarding shipping - In the US it's currently $80-120 just to ship (if you're lucky). If someone wants to factor in a box, good packing material, etc. you're easily looking at well over $150. Instead, some people are listing the bass at a higher price, but then putting $50 for shipping so Steve feels like he, "got a deal" on the shipping. It's the same reason people get scammed by car salesman - they don't do the math. They give you an extra $4,000 on the trade in, sure, but then they slapped $4,000 extra on the new car price.

It's always best just to look at the, "out the door" price. Too much? Walk away.

The point of the question was to find out what other peoples experiences are of buying off reverb. Whether they have come across over inflated prices, extreme shipping charges, rude sellers ect. Perfectly legitimate questions. Clearly some of the contributors on here have been reverb sellers because some are pretty touchy and defensive.
