Double Bass Revolution Solo 2 Installation ? Help!

I'm hoping someone here has some experience with this p/up.

I attempted to install one on my bass but I had to file some wood from my bridge to make the pickup fit. The problem is I filed off just a little too much. Now the pickup is too loose to make full contact with top and bottom parts of the bridge. I made a little wedge to hold things in place but the p/up just doesn't sound good. It is way too bright and noisy. Is this because I used the shim? Can I start over and mount the p/up on the "G" string side? Will this sound bad? I welcome any suggestions/advice. BTW I'm using a Walter Woods(amber) with a EA Wizzy M-Line 1x12..So I know it isn't the amp.

I use sax reeds to shim the pick up. Also ....it took a little work to get it sounding good.......I turned pu over [ made a big difference for the better ]...sanded here, there ....seemed like everywhere, adjusted / experimented with exact location of pu and shim tension...
I have never had success on the g side with a single wing pu

I am quite happy with it now........plug and play.......
no preamp needed , unless I need a lot of volume.

I've done all the same things pjleo said. With multiple RS's. I even sent one back to have it reconditioned, where I think they basically put a new wood casing over the old piezo so I could start over. It's all exactly as he said.

I prefer the sound of the p/u flipped over on my bass too w/ the "R" symbol facing the bass. But it does get a very lively sound the other way. A bit too bright and stringy on my bass.

Does using a shim change or degrade the sound? I've read differing opinions. I use a shim w/ a Planet Wing p/u and to my ears yes it does make a difference I can detect depending on which side of the p/u I place the shim.

Another option if you just need a slight adjustment is to wrap the p/u in Scotch tape as many times as needed to add just the right thickness. Cheap. Adjustable. :smug:
