Hi There

I use a first generation revoluition solo pickup and I really like the tone. Has anyone had the chance to compare this pickup with the revolution solo II?
Is there much tonal difference?

I use mine with an aguilar db924 preamp which helped the tone a lot even without eq.

Indeed I have. The RS-II has substantially more output than does the RS-I. In addition, it is even less particular about load impedance, although I would still recommend that it look into nothing less than 1 Mohm. The RS-II seems to retain all of the sonic characteristics of the RS-I with what is (for me) an important improvement. It does not seem to transduce nearly the relative amplitude of infrasonics that the RS-I did.

For those not familiar with this characteristic of many piezos, when you hit the string, such a pickup will often transduce the very, very low-frequency transient. These frequencies are inaudible (hence, the term "infrasonic") but they rob your amp of power (assuming the amp will pass them) and they can cause your speaker cone to go through wild excursions. This is especially true of the ported type speaker enclosures most of us use.

Even with the improvement the RS-II offers with regard to infrasonices, I still use a high-pass filter between it and my EA rig.

My advice: If you like the RS-I, buy an RS-II. It never hurts to have a backup and, IMO, the price remains quite attarctive.

Thanks for the advice. I've had a look at the other threads that mention the revolution II and it seems to get good reviews all round, so I guess I should get one, unless they are about to mave a revolution III!
I would be interested to know what kind of hipass filter you use?

I guess never say never...but there are no plans on changing anything at this point. We reserve the right to tweak and improve as time goes by...but it would have to be a significant change to warrant a new version.
