rewiring a mesa 4x10

after some research (googled it) i have read that running a cab at 4 ohms will allow the amp to push more power yet is more work for the amp. Im using a mesa boogie 400+ with the above mesa 4x10. Is this a accurate review?? Until i get another cab (probally a 15 to go with my mesa 4x10) would it be worth it to rewire for 4 ohm. Looking for more volume with the least amount of stress on my amp. Any help would be appreciated.
 
but you can't get 4 ohms. the speakers are 8 ohms. so if you rewire the box so that all four drivers are wired in parallel you'll get a 2 ohm load which your 400+ won't have a problem with as long as you plug into the proper output jack. currently like almost all 4x10's it'll be wired with a combination of series and parallel wiring. ex: 2x10's in parallel and the other two in parallel and then finally each pair wired together in series, or the opposite, doesn't matter. in the this case each pair makes 4 ohms and then when wired together in series the total goes back up to 8. so just have it rewired all in parallel. i didn't do mine myself however cuz i once saw the jack plate and it looked a little confusing to me, and if you're sodering isn't that great then you could have issues regarding resistance and the connection. i think i got charged like 50-60 bucks to have it done. but anyway, yeah, 2 ohms can be done and the 400+ is supposed to be happy with 2ohms. my svt loves it!!!

There's no reason to change your cab anyway... Tube power amps achieve the same maximum power levels with any Ohm selection they're designed to operate at.
(as long as you plug your speaker(s) in correctly, your 400+ has the same amount of power at 2, 4 or 8 ohm)

The "google" reference you saw was probably referring to the fact that solid state power amps achieve higher output levels when running at (or closer to) their minimum ohm rating. (a 4 ohm cab would indeed be louder with a S/S power amp)
