ric bridge on jazz bass?

it's wondering if you could use a rickenbacker 4001 bridge on a fender jazz bass? obviously you would have to do some drilling and mods, but what about scale and string spacing? has it ever been done? possible?

has it been done? possibly, I haven't heard of it though, is it possible? probably, everything is possible, it's just a matter of actually doing it.

What I don't understand is why you'd want to do that, doesn't the Rick 4001 bridge have a bunch of problems associated with its design?

This. I dont have problems with my Ric bridge, knock on wood, but it is a PITA to adjust. I wouldnt but its up to you. Im guessing you would have to screw new holes at the very least.

If you're talking a real RIC bridge, it'll require routing a cavity for the mute (about 1"x3"), and the tailpiece would most likely be hanging off the back of the bass a little. You'd also lose a lot of intonation capability.

With the Hipshot replacement, you won't have to rout the cavity (it's flat--no mute), but it'll still hang off the back. Intonation is easier, though.

Also, the string spacing is about 1/4" narrower on any RIC-style bridge.

So no, I would not recommend it.
