Ric copy

Your best bet is to put up WTB ads around...

I found mine by posting up WTB ads on Craigslist - someone hit me back within a week of posting and sold me their early 70's Ibanez Ric copy for $275 on my BIRTHDAY of all days! Friggin steal - I still can't believe it...

Oh, but I put about 4 hours of hard labor in by scraping off these vinyl stripes with my fingernails that looked like they'd been on there for 20+ years. Got her looking real nice though! Definitely one of my favorite basses - I'd predict they'll go way up in value one day as they're MUCH harder to find than real Ricks anymore. (Sounds better than a Rick too IMO - I love the dual humbuckers - has much more growl)

Here's a couple shots before I had her setup (for your GAS pains)

when I first got her - with the vinyl stripes...

Those stripes were kinda hot

Haha - yeah, I had mixed reactions from ppl after I stripped them, but up close, they were yellowing from age and sweat and peeling - plus I like the classic look more - not that "nu-wave reflective trying-to-hard" garbage LOL

The best part was, the guy sold it to me so cheap saying, "Yeah, I bought it with those stripes on there 20 years ago. You'll never get them off."

Once I cleaned them off, I found the finish to be close to perfect still. It was a great feeling.

it plays like a dream and here in Italy it costs a relatively ridiculously low amount: 582 euro!!! Mind you: Tuscany axes are NOT cheap copies but (believe it or not!) sophisticated hi quality basses/guitars, built in China and set-up in Italy by Mr. Galeazzo Frudua in person and his crew. Excellent stuff. The Exlusive is even more: new, modern designs and concepts at reasonable prices for the pro that does not want to get rid of an arm and a leg for an excellent instrument. No: I'm not an endorser!!! Just want to pass to the friends one of the best kept secrets until now and... yes: they are distributed worldwide. check on the sites and if necessary contact Galeazzo in person, that is an extremely nice chap.

So nice

They are still making Ric copies in Japan, look up 'Jayro', full neck through (mahogany bodies I think), seymour duncan 'Ric' pickups, about $500 or $600 from memory.. maybe try a Japanese store 'Guitar Shelter'? I seem to recall seeing them there.

is here a website? how much would a Ishibashi cost?

thanks everyone for the responses btw.

They do have a used Greco 'Ric' at the moment.. but.. Ishi are not dealing internationally any more except through their Ebay shop.

Also.. goto Invalid Link Removed search for 'Jayro'.. now I have no idea which of these stores will deal internationally, only way you can find out if to email em.

Sorry, can't help it. Love showing her off. And yes, she truly does play AT LEAST as good as she looks. Crazy low action with ZERO buzz. And the pickups truly do have Ric tone. How do I know? I've owned 3 different vintage 4001 basses (real Rics).

If it had a rosewood board, I don't think I'd know the difference. It even appears to have the mono and stereo output. That thing looks great.

It does look great.

Obviously the fretboard is a giveaway but I think one other overlooked giveaway is the tailpiece. I may be wrong... it just might be the pics but it looks too angular on its edges.

Also, Quadzilla can you verify if this body is the correct thickness? It looks a little bit thicker than my 4003S but it could be just that my S looks thinner without the binding.

I'm glad you like it and that it sounds like you want. Nothing beats a good bass that's got "that sound/tone".

I almost slipped and put "nothing beats a good bass that's *in tune* with you." but it was way too corny. ;)
