Ric or Rig?

I'd buy a used GK before I'd touch a MarkBass. The MB tone just doesn't do it for me and GK used prices make them bargains; toss one on an Avatar cab and you have a good amp for a little dough. See how much you have left and hope you can score a used Ric in that range. My 2 cents and a ripoff at that.

Go for the Ric.....buy used. Everytime you play you will feel vibs you can only get from a neck-through bass.

Use any left over for an old G-K 400rb head if you can. Solid State is the way to go at your age to avoid the maint expense of a tube amp. If funds are tight, pick up an old Peavey amp. They are reliable and hard to hurt if you gig a lot. Playing bass is a never ending tone chase. You have to find the gear that works best for you!

I'd personally get a nice amp first and maybe throw some new pickups in your bass if you're looking to improve the tone, my advice, which it seems you don't need, is to not settle for what you don't want. Better to spend the money and be satisfied, GAS always comes back, but I can't count the amount of gear i've gone through doing small upgrades. I'm pretty good where I'm at, unless i were to get into boutique stuff, which I have no desire for, I have no real room to upgrade. If I were you i'd pick up a used db-750 which you can get for 1200 or so if you watch then pick up either an aggie or avatar cab. You should never need to replace it.

edit: the thought of a 14 year old with a monster rig like that is scary... i shouldn't have spent so much money on videogames/candy growing up
