That pic you posted is a 3000 with an aftermarket pick up & what looks like an added control or toggle switch. The little curve in the pickguard near the treble horn in the pickguard & the front mounted input jacks are 3000 only. The 3001 has no little curve in the pickguard and the input jack on the bottom of the body.

The 3000 stock configuration is one volume & one tone knob. The 3001 has one volume, one bass, one treble.

It's obviously been routed & modified, but a pretty decent price. I've seen all original ones go for under 1K though.

Need pics to really discuss condition and value.

Less than a decade ago $500 was about all these could fetch. But they have really taken off. Nowadays a working one in condition >7 out of 10 I would say $500 is a good deal for sure.

But if you're not into heavy instruments this is not the one for you... Maybe the short scales are a little better but I bet even they would be heavy.

John Hall (RIC CEO) is quite fond of these basses & drops some fascinating factoids on the Rick Forum from time to time. Like this one:

"The creation of this series was overseen by our chief electronics engineer at the time, George Cole. (He was also the architect of the TR amp series.) He is also a superb bass player and worked with many of the greats in the past. As such there were a number of little "quirks" or optimizations he proposed and/or introduced on these instruments. The pickup design is utterly elegant, with a single coil fitted around a bar magnet that rests against the steel frame, that then become two poles pieces at each our edge of the pickup. The design not only shields the coil very well, it has a pseudo-humbucking effect that doesn't change the single coil sound.

The pickups used for the first several years of the 2000 series vasses were the same design with slightly different dimensions. These are nice pickups. About 8k ohms quiet but still single coil.
