Rick Danko

I'm new to this forum so I didn't really know where to put this. I am looking to get my first decent bass set up (guitar, and amp). I like to play classic rock and some country. Maybe even some newer rock. But most of all I would love to be able to sound like my idol Rick Danko. Budget is about 1000. Thanks guys
If you are looking to recreate the early Danko sound I would go with a Jazz Bass with flats and a pick some of the times, but for his later stuff with The Band I would think any kind of Gibson would do good, I have an EB-3 with flats and I can emulate the tone most of the time. I also have an Eastwood EUB-1 which is a tribute to the Ampeg scroll basses. If you are trying to play like him I would suggest playing along with the vocals but a hair behind, as Rick has said several times himself.
