That is a beat up 4001 with some problems ... not a 4003

The 4003 basses 1986 and later are usually your best bet for a good Rickenbacker bass.

My local craigs has a newer black 4003 for 1k, and comes with a silver Ric tolex case.

I bought my 1986 4003S/5 that was in mint condition for $900 about 3 years ago.

Yeah, they can be found but you have to be 1) lucky and 2) persistent in searching...
