Rickenbacker 4001C64 - NBD!

I love my C64. I picked it out of a group of 5. For some reason, this one's a screamer. With round wounds and a pick, it barks and snaps something fierce! With flats, it sounds fat and wonderful. Gotta say though, the neck depth is so thin- I have big hands, and it feels like I'm playing a tongue depressor! I love it though. It is a bass with real character.

This is me in a power trio band that features a Ric guitar through an AC30, a Ric 4001 C64 and our drummer. We've been terrorizing New York for about 4 years now! British pub rock, much like The Jam.

A quick question for those in the know: Are the two main things that make the c64 different than a stock 4001 (besides the headstock) the skinnier neck and the toaster pickup in the neck position? I've recently begun developing the dreaded Rick G.A.S. and despite my best efforts, I think we all know how this going to end.

I'd love the C64, but they are a bit pricey. Wondering if I coiuld give myself the desired McCartney sonic mojo with by adding a toaster pickup to a used 4001. And then I just need to get myself into a black and white one- they always seem to come up cheaper used than fireglows.

Don't forget the horseshoe bridge pickup - thats one of the key factors in achieving the vintage 4001 tone.
The peghead is also thinner (at least mine is) than on my 4003 or 4004 models, and there is no body or neck binding like on a regular 4001.
Lastly, it comes with a cool vintage-style case covered in silver tolex with black end caps, and a crushed blue velvet interior.

Wildwood Guitars (where I bought this one) have three of these in stock in Mapleglo, and one in Fireglo, and they are great folks to deal with.

Don't wait too long to pull the trigger - these basses are now discontinued, so they won't be in stores very much longer.

Cool! Here is a link to our myspace page. Half of the tunes I played with a pick, the other half fingerstyle.

Arly, the guitar player is incredible- one of the few guitar players I've ever seen that plays 5 finger chords (yes- uses his thumb over the top of the fingerboard to anchor the E & A strings on some chords. We have a BIG sound for a power trio). Hope you like it!

Naw, I'm just water treatment plant operator who has been at it for decades (= many raises over the years), and my wife does pretty well with her job, we have no kids, and I pinch pennys wherever I can in my endless quest for new bass toys. :bassist:

btw, water treatment is a great field to get in to - it's usually government work, and no matter what happens with the economy, people will always need drinking water, so your job is not going to disappear when you need it most.
