Rickenbacker 4003 bass build

Hey Hey,

I am brand new to this forum and I want to share with you a Rickenbacker 4003 style bass I just finished building. During my build I found I was googling lots of details about the specs and processes and it seemed I was arriving at talkbass.com a lot so I figured I would contribute too.

Please enjoy these pics of my build process and please leave comments and tips to make my next build go easier! This is the second guitar I've ever built, and it was the first neck through. This thing plays wonderfully and sounds awesome. I've played a few Rics and this thing is right there with them. I am considering parting with it if anyone is interested. Drop me a line!

The main differences between my build a store bought Ric are:
-single truss rod
-macassar ebony fingerboard
-stainless steel frets
-narrower headstock (just by a little bit)
-tung oil finish instead of lacquer
-much tighter body routes for mounting pickups and electronics
-Ovangkol "butt" at the end of the neckthrough at the body
-two Ric "neck" pickups to avoid that unwieldy bridge pickup cover
-custom mirror pickup surround for bridge pickup
-White marine pearl truss rod cover

...lastly here is a video of the bass in action playing "Love Hungry Man" by AC-DC

Wow! Beautiful job! That Birdseye maple top is gorgeous. Did you make the bridge pup surround yourself? I'm about 3/4 through my own painfully slow 4001 clone build. There have been a few really good ones on TB by Maleglo and Ronaldpbrandt. Did you taper your neck beam all the way through, or is it parallel sides at the body wings? Nice to see another Ric build on TB.

The Rickenbarner - my first fully scratch-build!

Thanks for the compliments, I am really proud of this one. I DID make that PUP surround myself, I used one of those mirrors that you would put inside your high school locker, I got it for free out of the lost and found!

..and yes I did taper the neck all the way through. It seemed like the easier way to do it.
