Rickenbacker 4003 Tuxedo/Whitestar

I bought this bass new and still own it. It has certificate as production number 1 in the series. It was played professionally for 10 years and has been retired for the past almost 20 years. I pulled it out last week and played a little. Still a great player. It has turned yellow and has a pink tint on the back from years of being played.

Here's what the 4003SPC Tuxedo looks like if you strip off all of the white paint. Lots of mapley goodness. Sold this one a few months ago.

Here's a (probably) dumb, just-out-of-curiousity question for you Paul. Being a rare limited edition model anyway, if you strip the original finish off does that not have a negative effect on the resale value?

Beautiful instrument BTW, not knocking it. I'd always wondered if you could get a maple neck on a Ric, had never seen one till I saw pictures on this forum. I started my playing career on a '74 white/black Ric (the one in my avatar), still kick myself for ever selling it "back in the day".

I suppose, but the one I had stripped was so ugly yellow that I figured it had already lost some value. I sold it for less than I paid for it (and the refin), so in this case, it did lose value.

While I don't have any pics available at the moment, for the record I have #1 in the second production run after the first 100 (the certificate says #1 of 15). I bought it new in '87. It's also a bit cream colored now, and the tone is more Chris Squire-like than my 4001CS Chris Squire! Pics when I can...
