so, the rickenbacker 4003. i really wanna get it, i have the money, i know a place to order it, but i can find no where to play it in person. ive played a vintage 4001 and a modern 4001, and really like the rick-o sound, but i wanna play it before i get it. anyone know of a place near Westport CT i can give it a test run (anywhere within an hour)

Good choice. If you end up not trying before buying, have no fear. You can sell it for what you paid, no loss. Unlikely you won't want to keep it, though, it's a fantastic instrument, unlike anything else.
yeah, ive tried these, i even called samash, and they have it in another store that they aren't willing to get unless i am 100% sure that ill buy it
It would help a little if you could fill out your profile so we know where you are. I would definitely try a Ric before I bought it. Not everybody likes how they feel and they can be a bit rough on your arm sitting down. Plus, they don't feel like any other bass, so before putting out that amount of cash, make sure you like it first. Just my recommendation from trading/selling too many basses over the years.

because I tried out some vintage 4001's and they didn't sound as good as a new 4003. so that's why I was concerned about the vintage 4003's
That's because 4001s have a capciator that cuts the low-end a bit.
New 4003's have a pull/push pot that enables and disables this.
RIC has recently gone with a narrower neck thickness (front to back).... hard to determine if yours will be thin or thick based on your order date. The pickups have been wound hotter in the last decade or so. You really should play it first, but like others have said, the resale value is high. Sometimes you gotta keep trying to get a good one.
so among the new ones does each sound different? I'm just wondering because I really liked a new one I just tried out but unfortunatly it was jetglo not fireglo
