I remember my Rick from way back in the late 70's.... really narrow neck, especially at the nut. I got a chance to play it decades later, and I hated it. A 5 string would really be difficult to fret I would think.
@Ric5 , your basses/work are truly beautiful (y)
@Ric5, I've always wondered how you do those conversions. Really cool stuff!
Well, I've got three S5's (as well as one of Ric5's creations, a 4004 conversion), and I might be persuaded to thin the herd at some point. Where are you located? I'm not too eager to relinquish one of these by mail.
Here's one of them in action; this is the one I use the most, MG with white trim:

Did you get 2 basses from me? ... the 4004ci 5 and the 4003s5 that was sanded down and oil finished? Both of those were excellent basses that I hated to sell.
I got the 4004ci 5 conversion from you; the others are stock s5's. Your creation is on the right, and the two others (aside from the MG above) are shown also. I've thought about switching the black hardware on the originally white one to either the FG or MG; the white has aged to a nice cream color and with the white/chrome trim, I've thought it would be a nice Chris Squire 5-string homage. But I haven't done it yet, I'm the exact opposite of you in that I am very queasy about modifying a bass!

i think the black would look much better on the mapleglo. here's a pic of a fireglo with black hardware and it doesn't look right.I got the 4004ci 5 conversion from you; the others are stock s5's. Ric5: is it possible to do your conversion using a different bridge? For example, a Hipshot A style bridge or a BadAss V (or Hipshot's new version of the Badass, the KickassV?)
Also, do you have any experience with the "treble bezel" or a few other products I've seen that cover the hole on the bridge pickup of a 4003? Do they work for your conversions?
It is very easy to convert a mono out Rick to ROS, so don't let that stop you from getting one.Hi, never posted here before, and I'm in no way an expert on bass guitars, but... I'm keen on getting a 5 string Rickenbacker with the stereo output set up. I wonder - does such a thing exist or has something like this ever been made by the company? Having a dig through their site, this forum etc. it seems there isn't, but I thought I'd just ask before giving up on the idea. Thanks for your time.
