Rickenbacker bass on jazz/funk gig, check this out!

Wasn't as into it as I'd thought I'd be. Either I don't know what a Ric is supposed to sound like or it was trying to sound like something it isn't-- a Ray.

2:48-3:00 was really tasty, however. Loved those long notes. Playing and band were fine, just wasn't in love with that bass tone.
In my experience, Rickenbackers and MM Stingrays don't sound that far apart.

I apologize if any of you have already seen this but this guy can really play, all around excellent band but I did post this here because how often do you get to hear someone funking up a Rick bass?.

Somebody tell that guy ...

YOU CAN'T SLAP A RIC

Well, there was NEVER any doubt in my mind!:roflmao:
( I play MOSTLY- but not exclusively- Funk/ R&B/Soul

I've had (2)- A FG 4003 and a MP Laredo. I found the switching on the 4003- (including the oft ignored Ric-O-Sound) to be so:

...that whenever I read a thread/post bashing Rics, I shake my head in wonderment!
I LOVED the funky tones from that bass. It totally delivered.

And I'm going to toot my own horn in that I went up to Mr. John Hall at NAMM several years back to tell him that I thought that the Laredo was one of the most under-rated, under-the-radar basses for Funk on the market, period!

He replied that it was the instrument that he chose to play for that type of music, and that he wished more players were as astute as I!
So there!

Same for me - only problem is, I can't... bring myself to pluck (tear / pull) a string on my Ric, as Larry Graham does, for example. Slapping is fine, though, followed by gentle strokes. Guess, I'm too romantic for funk :D
