Rickenbacker bass values?

Hello
I'm trying to figure out the value of my basses for homeowners insurance.
Here is what I have-
Out of the seven basses I have four are Rics and I do not know the value I should place on them.
1. 1979 Autumglo Fretless 3001 mint (case queen) still smells new, has original strings in mint condition
2. Two 1986 4003 limited edition Shadow both in great shape
3. Mapleglo 1972 4001 also in great condition

4. I also have a mint Kramer XL8 eight string

I would appreciate any feedback or opinions

Thanks! Brenda:thumbsup: You can email me at [email protected]

Does your policy require you commit to a replacement value now, or is the value determined at the time of loss?

I would estimate $2000 each for policy purposes if it is simply used to price the policy and does not set a limit on claim value. The 3001 sounds like it could be an appreciating asset.

I only filed a claim once and it was a long time ago. But the bass and amp that I had stolen was covered under general losses and at that time it was not necessary to itemize them on the policy. I got better than full replacement value. Maybe a lot had changed since then, but research and find out what the difference is between itemization and general coverage. My feeling is that itemization is more helpful to the insurance company in some cases by limiting their loss liability.

Thank you for the reply . Right now I'm just trying to figure out the values. I have yet to contact any insurance companies. I'm also trying to establish the values to see which I want to hang on to . BTW.. by this quote I'm speaking of an old Ibanez, Fender Jazz, a classical guitar and a violin I'm considering selling. But knowing how I can't seem to part w/ anything I prob will never sell them. I'm just running out of room.

One thing you can do is check eBay and reverb.com for similar sold listings. Also the classifieds here on TB may have similar items that have been sold.

I wouldn't use the prices of items currently for sale since some sellers can be a little optimistic.

Thank you for the reply. I do know the 84 3001 is very rare, I heard less than a dozen were made. It is the book "Rocks Bottom End' due to its rarity. Its rare to find Shadows on ebay and impossible to find the 3001 fretless so I'm at a loss of their value/

I have seen two 3001's on reverb.com that sold at around $1300 and $1800. One recent on TB with $2000 asking but it wasn't clear to me what the selling price was.

If I were to guess I would say that holding on to it another 20 years would probably be more interesting than selling it now for what is roughly equivalent to or less than the price of a new 4003.

Good to see another fretless 3001 out there. Now I know there are at least two! Another is on page 50 of my book. And good to see an appreciative owner of the fabulous Shadow! How about that neck? If you like skinny necks on a Rick, they don't get much skinnier than those on the Shadow!

I'm not an official price setter, but I would place $1500 on the 3001FL, and $2500 on each Shadow. You may not get that if you had to sell them, but in my opinion, you'd be justified to get those prices.

I have a blanket "personal effects" rider, which includes instruments. Instead of determining a value now, values are determined at the time of loss. The catch is the total loss cannot exceed the policy limit and you must have proof of ownership (receipts, photos, etc.) when submitting a claim. Pretty common I assume and will hopefully never need to use it. My instruments and wife's jewelry are all under the same rider.

Insurance can be done a few different way. Purchase price, depreciated value, or full replacement cost. To get some idea of rates, just ballpark a bunch of values for now. If you decide to buy a policy, then you can get some current values.

Hello Paul.. that 3001 fretless in your book is my bass :)

Not sure I can show proof of ownership, I know I no longer have the receipts for two of them. :(

This smacks of a non supporting member just putting out there that they might be willing to sell their basses. It might just be the pessimist in me though.
Wow thanks for the put down, yes I am selling the SVT speakers but def not my basses. If I was into selling I wouldn't have a combination of 13 basses, guitars, acoustics, mini moog, moog tarsus I, Oberheim oBXa and countless effects and amps along w/ a Roland TD-30K SE drum kit, various folk drums, Oud, Native American Flutes, Violin, etc.. etc.. I rarely sell what I buy and still have a ton of analog effects from the 70s and 80s. Trust me I've had many offers on my Ric's and have yet to sell one of them. Just because I don't post here doesn't mean anything, sorry I spend more time w/ my instruments than on a msg board.

I call em as I see em. You are violating the TOS by having not one but two "what it's worth" threads. There was a time where a lot of people did that and what it does is circumvent the talkbass supporting membership program by letting people know you are willing to sell something but without supporting the forum. So people could theoretically send you a private message and you could sell something without supporting the site. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just value this forum and feel the rules do serve a purpose. In either case good luck with your insurance policy on your instruments.
