Hello! Many people struggle with saddle rattle on Hipshot replacement bridges on ric. Me too. For start I have a 1974 Greco Ric copy. It has big problems with old bridge so i changed it many years ago. It has some string action problems so i forced to route a cavity under the bridge plate. Thats too cruel for vintage bass but its much cheaper than refretting this with taller frets. (laquer, binding will increase the cost) And when frets will wear again problem will return. Anyway no one can notice this because it has almost no gaps between wood and bridge. I hoped that will fix the rattle too but not.
Current fix looks like this.
I made this brass retainer and installed it on the mounting screws. But it turns string change to nightmare because they're scratching on mounting screw heads. I think i need to drill holes in bridge baseplate and cut some thread. I cant see any better ideas.
I havent done this already because i afraid to do mistake. Maybe i can go to the same guitar workshop which routed bridge cavity but i have not so much money. Technically i can do it by myself, but fear of making mistakes stops me. And i want to hear an advices about it.
4001/3 (and its copies) are awesome but also a curse thing.
