Rickenbacker clones are hard to come by b/c the company is aggressive in enforcing it's trademark shape and image.

If you are more interested in "sounding" like a Ric, like already mentioned the Peavey T-40 has some nice agressive single coil sound possibilities. Personally I think a Fender (or Squier) Jazz with hot coils can come very close, but I don't want to start an argument so I'll leave it at that. :hiding:

Ric clones cruise under the radar mostly on craigslist and sometimes on ebay under the guise of "stereo bass" so there's that, although a good example can still cost $400 -$500 so you need to decide if that's worth it.

Personally, if I had a desire to get another Ric I'd keep an eye on craigslist for a nice used 4001. I've seen two already this year under $1000 which is not a bad price IMO, but again it's how much you want to spend.

Bide your time & keep an eye on CL, or to a lesser extent, ebay, for bargains. But be advised that Ric's are the real deal, & the real deal comes with a price tag attached. Also, be advised that (some, not all) of the old ones had neck issues, & many have been butchered, to some extent. Finding a clean one at a good price...there's the challenge...
