Rickenbackers in Canada?

I would probably getting one from MF, but the thing is with getting it there, is I know that all Fireglo's aren't the same, and from what I can see on the site, the one that they're advertising is a colour I definitely don't want. It has a pinkish-red colour in the center, where as the FG I want is the one with the Natural look in the middle.

You want Maple Glow, not fire glow.

Since I am here, and I am Canadian, I might as well tell you my L&M horror story. In 05 I ordered a 4003LH FG (the LH is left handed) I was given a price of $1625 CD, including case and taxes. I was told it would be an 18 month wait. I put $700 down instead of the minimum 10% to show I was serious, and waited. It came in, a little over 14 months later, I drove 2 hours to Calgary to pick up my bass. I played it, liked it and went to the counter. I was then told it was $1699 + $175 or something for the vintage case + Taxes. I didn't have that as I only had saved what I was told it would cost. I told them to hold it, they didn't offer a payment plan or anything. I was not happy that the quoted price was different than the actual price.

I then moved to Victoria, I saved up the money again after the move, and came down to a local L&M to get my bass shipped out here from Alberta. I was told that they sold it to someone else, but they still had my deposit if I wanted to order another. I said "NO!" took my deposit and have not dealt with L&M since. I was absolutely shocked that they would sell it to someone else, I ordered it and it was my bass.

I have also pretty much given up on Ric, myself and a friend out here built me a bass that is even more beautiful than Rics are, for a lot less (since I only paid for the maple for the neck, the cocobolo for the fretboard, the walnut for the body, black hardware by Hipshot, EMG pickups, Elixir medium gauge strings, and odds and ends like fret wire and electronics: So, I didn't have to worry much about labour costs) and it didn't take as long. I then took the money I saved and bought a used SLM Ampeg 8x10E (25th Long and Mcquade anniversary, LOL.) cabinet.

I still might own a Ric one day, but I will not order it from a store, I will not wait over a year and it will have to be exactly what I want (I.E. left handed, and not jetglow [fretless would also be nice]). I honestly am not expecting to ever find one (I actually shed a tear when I saw a beautiful LH blueburst on evilbay chopped up with a chainsaw) but if I am supposed to own a Ric, I will find MY Ric one day. Good luck in finding yours and I hope no one ever has to go through what I had to. :-) Cheers.

This is the colour I want..

See, the center of it is kind of pinkish-red.

And that sucks about L & M, they're a good store, but sometimes they can be a pain. Same thing happened with me with a Wah

I bought a Midnite Blue from L & M in June 2007. They have not had one in stock since. The usual back order tale. I emailed their head office in Ontario and have got the same responses over the last year. I ended up buying 1 new 4003 from MF and 2 other used Rics from the fellow TBers in the time that L & M have had them "backordered". New or close to new ones are around and pretty easy to come by on Ebay.

I went to L and M to try one out about a week after you bought that one then, cause the guy told me they just sold their last one a week or so ago and they were backordered. You bugger :p

I guess, but what if they do have ones like that? I've never even heard/seen something like that

IMO with Rics it can be a bit of a take what you can get situation. Might not be ideal to a consumer but I think that is where things are at. I have no doubts about liking a Ric bass so ordering sight unseen/unplayed from MF or another place in the States is no big deal to me. Better than waiting for something that never comes to the local L & M.

As another poster pointed out Rics are pretty consistent in their colorings. The photo from the MF site is just a stock photo.

Okay you are right. Maple glow is not the color I was thinking it is. If you get fireglow you are going to see pink in it and if you hate pink you will not be happy with the color. So now that I don't know what the color I think you want is called, go to the ric website, go to compare basses and look with your own eyes at the 4003Fl and the 4001 64 reissue the pictures of those basses show that there is a much more brown burst bass than the red/pink fireglow. Cheers.

I remember just last year the L & M in Vancouver had 2 Ricks, one was even one of the reissue ones (they might all be sold now). They also pop up on craigslist from time to time. They aren't the most common, but they do pop up here and there.

Not all FG Rics have that pinkish look on the inside like that. Most of them are pretty even. Granted mine is a 97 Fireglo, but the recent ones look just as good. Every now and then one with a pink center pops up,but not often.
