Rig not matching my bass?

So I always had a hi def scooped jazz bass sound and I was never comfortable about how I was sitting in the mix. I lately got into p basses and its awesome, it fills and sits perfect in the mix. Now I got a EBS hd350 and a EBS 2x10 cab this rig is super high def and im not sure if these are a good match. The EBS is very clean and high definition and I sometimes want some old school dirt yet still be versatile, should I get another amp? If so wich one?

Have you considered some effect pedals, maybe a tube emulator? Might be a good substitute.

Checkout the new MXR M81 Bass Preamp, you can dail in pretty much any tone you want with it, with any bass or amp... seriously, at least test drive one.

That EBS Multidrive is a well-liked pedal. Sounds good to me. Simple controls, too.

Try using more gain and less master, see if that will dirty your sound up a little. I have a Aguilar TH500 and the Drive control on it really lets the sounds break up, kinda like a tube amp.

An effect pedal can be exactly what you need, but be warned that there is are a lot of different voices in those pedals. Finding the perfect one (or even one that gets you closer to your sound) might take some flipping. It's cheaper than flipping amps, but it can add up in a hurry.

A pedal might work, especially with a clean Hifi amp, but a different amp might also work. I know I prefer my ShuttleMax or Eden amps for my Warwick and Spector basses and my Streamliner for my Fenders.

IMHO, it is best to find your sound through a DI into a decent mixer auditioned via good headphones (use a pedal if you wish). THEN, get it louder with a great amp that can be a stage monitor or can vibrate pieced body parts at 100 yards. When you go to the show and they won't mic your amp, you won't care either way.

bass player: Mic my amp?
sound guy: Nope. DI.
bass player: Sure pal, I DI just fine.

I would try using a sans amp, b7k or something else to round out and dirty up the tone some first. I used a sans amp with what i considered a hifi setup (swr750x & swr6x10) for a while, it was pretty nice. The sans amp was setup to provide a rounder tube like tone.

I know for me personally I'm more of a fan of a rounder rock sound as opposed to a mid scooped sound. Sometimes all it takes is a cheap sans amp.

If your looking for an affordable but high performance rig. I currently play a sans amp RBI into a crown XLs 1500 power amp pushing an ampeg 410he cab. Very portable but still powerful enough for most gigs. And a lot cheaper and easier to deal with than most rigs I've had i keep the sans amp and crown along with a tuner in a 4 space gator rack bag. Has a shoulder strap and the entire rack weighs maybe 20lbs or so. Less than half the weight of my swr750x on its own and just as loud. The 410he is like a mini 810e. Same speakers, similar sealed cab design, very similar tone.

I use the same head, and you can get some very nice grit from the Drive circuit once you get the Gain and Drive levels right. If the 210 has a tweeter (my 212s do), roll it off on the back of the cab. I love the way those amps snarl while carrying a really wide spectrum. I have a Darkglass pedal on my board, but with the HD350 I rarely want it.
