Right hand forearm resting.

Great Thread...I`m still having huge problems with figuring out proper right hand position....It isn`t bad when I play standing as bass is hanging at a bit bigger angle, but when I`m sitting I have similar issues.

My hand isn`t getting sore or anything, but it bugs me that this isn`t the right way, plus I can feel bass pressing against the muscles on my forearm. From this I conclude that (since the muscles are pressed) they have to work harder to move my fingers....Conclusion: If I would be in correct position I would be able to play faster and longer...

My question is:
When you hold your forearm in a straight line with your hand / wrist...what do you do with a weight of your arm??
- Is the whole weight rests on the anchored thumb? sounds rather silly to me...
- Is the arm "hanging" on the shoulder with a bit of support from thumb?? in this case shoulder will be doing most of the "lifting"

I imagine the correct position of your right hand as you were holding a large square object under your arm, on the side of your body...Kind of like you would holding large barrel of beer :))) the only difference is that your wrist is hanging free. Is that correct??

If yes, what part of your body carries the weight of your arm??

In the link you will find some useful info about the plucking hand and arm.
What holds the forearm in place is the elbows position in all this.
The forearm runs along the front of the bass so it sort of holds it against the body. This tention between the bass and the body as such, helps support the forearm in a way because it traps the bass between the body and the arm, rather than pushing down on the bass.
