What is there to "get away with"? Are you insinuating that a tbr sells a wrecked hulk for what he / she can get for the sum of the parts , I take it put hours of time and effort to restoring finishing it setting it up well, leveling frets etc.. that the community would begrudge me profit for my time and effort? I think not.You probably wouldn't get away with it here, but good deal that you can elsewhere.
About the only time I can think of where this would get dicey is you knowingly took advantage of someones lack of knowledge to buy low, then flipped the item for a profit.
If I came across a high end bass at a garage sale, say a Sadowky/Roscoe/Ritter/etc, and it was only a couple hundred bucks but in great shape, I'd let the person know what they had and the potential value. I'd hope to negotiate a reasonable deal for myself, but I sure wouldn't just buy it without telling them first.

...I don't like it.
I went to buy an advertised bass for $250 but was sold....on kijiji ...and a week later I see the same bass up for $650
a...hole is what I thought of the buyer...
So I should pass up a good deal to let you get a good deal. Altruism is great ... when someone else exhibits it for YOUR benefit ...I feel if you buy to use and enjoy.....but otherwise let someone who really does want it get a good deal
I guess what you say is true....my sense of fairness is always based on how I treat others in the world. So I should pass up a good deal to let you get a good deal. Altruism is great ... when someone else exhibits it for YOUR benefit ...![]()
