Rigs of DORM!

rig.jpg

GK 1001-RBII and a Bergantino HT112.

Yeah I don't keep it loud. :(

My first amp was a 15w crate, but when i went to college my uncle who lived near the school loaned(and eventually gave) me a peavy amp. First year i used his old 80s TKO, 100 wats, 12 inch speaker, okish tone. Then second year he lent me this TNT 130:

It's really loud, and naturally doesn't sound as good turned down. Needless to say, the kids on the floor below me didn't like me... Once on the last day of finals week my first year of college, back in the spring of 05, i was playing and someone came up from 2 floors down, complaining because they had to finish their final paper. :p

He gave me this amp when i graduated las june. Killer.

Here's where my magic happens. Presonus Firebox into my PC and then cubase and Ampeg SVX among other plugins. 90% of my listening is done through the Beyerdynamic DT770's on the desk. The monitors are mostly used for listening to music and the odd attempt at mixing.

My amp probably has about 2 hours total use since July. I don't even know why I bought it, I thought I may need it at some point.

I've added a Sansamp BDDI since this pic and the strat is in the closet replaced by a couple SX jazz bass's and a Squier VM P bass, along with the jaz in the pic.

It's a 3rd floor walkup apartment, this is the 2nd of 2 bedrooms. I run my Pc repair business from the same desk. My wife sits opposite me at the same kind of desk, Ebaying and getting sick of listening to unamplified Bass lines lol

I plug my bass into my computer via this little beauty and then use garageband to give it a bit of eq - Not that this does much when you're only playing out of you computer speakers!

I've got one of these too, it's awesome for recording little riffs and things you come up with. My band is over in Vancouver (and I'm in Victoria) so it's awesome to be able to send them ideas and things while we're apart.

(your neighbors) that damn kid always plays his dang rap music so loud!

i'm assuming your neighbors are old white racists.

but, report to the rigs of doom thread! thats so doomy that i have a semi!

They really don't have anything to complain about though... the people upstairs are like elephants and walk around basically stomping all day... the people beside me basically have the loudest sex I've ever heard 24/7... so they can learn to deal with my rig of sexiness :hiding:

When I was in the dorms, I was using a bassman 70/bag end 1x15, then I had a musicman HD130 with the 1x15. Traded those for a twin reverb, then when I moved into my old apartment I got this:

The first time I used it during the week the neighbors came down and started bitching. Now I'm down to a little beat to hell crate combo (my first amp ever).

The guy living below HATES me...

Several years ago we lived in a first floor of a rowhouse, with a bassist living above us (I wasn't yet playing again then). Never saw him coming or going, and he practiced at all odd hours of the night, more loudly than not. One night we took all four speakers of our stereo system, pointed them upward, and blasted several hundred watts of the opening bars of Bach's Toccato and Fugue in Dm (on pipes) up through the ceiling. NEVER heard him practicing again; he may have moved out. :-)

I have been looking at these phones - how do you like them? They get pretty good reviews

Cheapest headset I've ever purchased, the ATH-D40fs - originally they cost much more. For practicing bass they are great; very sensitive so even weaker headphone-outs can drive them to significant levels - yet with good headphone amps they can take scads of LF content at high levels without distorting, unlike many less-affordable "reference cans".

For bass-specific listening they also have a subtle bass enhancement that is non-boomy but compensates for the ear's lesser sensitivity to low frequencies. Unless you have really big dumbo flaps they are also very comfortable for long sessions.
