Man. A bit of me died inside. RIP, Al.

In his honor, I watched one of my favorite tunes done by him. It's a tremendous performance.

Somehow I knew this was going to happen!
I just read a few days ago that his concert at the Genesee Theater in Waukegan Il.was cancelled.
And that he was going to retire.

Way back in 1980 a good friend took me to see Al perform at the Greek Theater in L.A
I still remember that concert.
Man!I enjoy his work!

A little bit of me dies when my music heroes die.!

I did not realize he was 76 and his first real gigs were with George Duke. Saying he could sing just does not do him justice. He was truly a vocal musician.

I first saw Al in the mid 70's with Abraham Laboriel on bass, he was just awesome. He had the audience in the palm of the hand and he was the opener, women LOVED him! What joy he brought to his shows! This is another huge lost!

He wasn't a bass player but as a vocalist he was a musician's - musician and I am truly blessed and grateful to have had the experience of listening and playing some of this extraordinary Artist material as well as recognizing Al Jarreau as a great
Humanitarian also. Mr Jarreau I thank you for sharing your incredible gift and music with us and may you RIP.

There should be a thread about his bass players. I saw him with Jimmy Hislop, Al Laborial, and I know he's toured with Marcus. His bands were serious.

I had the privilege to play with him a couple times at Sardino's East (in Milwaukee) just before he became famous. (Man this is joggin a memory) You could tell right then and there that he was something special.

I got a promo copy of that from a jazz DJ, and man, i loved it right away. Marcus is one underrated producer.. Incredible line-up, and great arrangements. Al was one of my top vocal artists of the 80's.

I saw him about ten years ago. Wonderful, joyous singer. Everyone in the band sang. A vocal legend. He really did accentuate the positive...
