RIP: Eduard Khil

Poor man. I always felt sorry for him, being an excellent singer with a track record which speaks for itself, and being known mainly as the Tro-lo-lo singer. Apparently he wasn't too pleased about it either, which is quite understandable.

God bless you, Eduard Khil, and rest in peace, my friend.

This is interesting. I was under the impression that he had taken his newly-found "fame" quite well.

You may be right, Atoz. I was only going on something which I read in an interview, a year or so ago. He did mention that the Tro-lo-lo video had brought quite a bit of business into the cafe which he was running, so he may have been able to see it in a more cheerful light. I certainly hope so, anyway!

You might be right as well. I had assumed he was cool with everything because he appeared to be smiling in all the modern-day pictures I ever saw of him. In any event, I'm pretty bummed out about his passing.

Interesting fact, the song trololo actually had lyrics. But because Soviet Gov thought it was pro western song was banned. So he just hummed it. (EDIT: oh, it's also in the article, hah)

As far as known, he was popular in Russia. Because of Cold War, Americans don't know him, but Russians know him very very well.

From interview i saw of him on Russian TV he said in 2010 "I love it, i love that people are having fun with it, what i really want to see is people around the world make up their own words to song (because i was unable to sing my words). Every culture could have a story and i would love to hear that story. I love it" --- loose translation.
