Not as bad as 2015 was, for sure. if you can recall. 2016 was infamous for Prince, Bowie, more non-bassists. But 2015 was the "bassists dropping like flies" year. But we're not halfway through yet, of this year, so...So many great songs he made even better.. This has been a hard year for bass players.
Duncan Brown, The Wild Places
A very fine player, will be missed. I'm a deep track guy, I heard this stuff from being a used record store rat, saw Tony Hymas & Simon Phillips on it and knew it would be interesting.
I'm also a big fan of instrumentals...2 jackpots! Dig these, nice wide berth around the bass, leaving him to his frequencies, glorious fretless tone.
Although Percy Jones is known as the bassist for Brand X, John Giblin played on a few albums like ‘Product’, ‘Do They Hurt?’ and ‘Is There Anything About?’Sad, he was a part of some of my favorite music.
I am writing a workshop article for a printed bass magazine now and have compiled a Spotify playlist with John Giblin gems. It’s not not completely finished and I will add some songs in the next few days. Already 2,5 hours now. Which songs with cool bass lines that aren’t in there should be in there according to you? Let me know so I could add them.
