"Consciousness" and "Joyous Lake" were huge for me back when I was in high school. And, the story of his relearning how to play was incredibly inspiring.
I can recall buying this album & being taken aback...this is the same guy from those other 2 albums?!?
I remember my uncle was not a fan of PM's more electric direction.

I remember Joyous Lake not being embraced by a lot people/critics
I see some studio credits on Leonard, but not much. I listened to Joyous Lake yesterday and to me, it has a band feel, you can tell it wasn't just Martino and some studio cats.Joyous Lake is one of my Desert Island Discs for sure; hugely influential on my teenage brain!
When I was an undergrad at Berklee I took a creative writing class as one of my academic prerequisites that was about writing music criticism...record reviews, basically. One of the albums we had to review for the class was Martino's Joyous Lake. I was shocked when it turned out I was the only person in the entire class who wrote a positive review! There's no accounting for taste
Speaking of Joyous Lake does anyone know whatever became of bassist Mark Leonard? Seems like a one-and-done guy, I haven't been able to find any other recordings he ever appeared on.
