I loved his comedy and his TV work. He was brilliant on Curb Your Enthusiasm too.

What a great comic. Loved the bit he did on curb where, in order to save a new relationship, he had to start calling everyone “honey”. RIP Lewis.

Richard Lewis appeared on Letterman numerous times in the 80's and 90's and would always be wearing All Black...Letterman once told Lewis that he (Lewis) "...dresses like a towel-boy in an Opium Den." He was the perfect foil for Letterman's style of humor.
I read Lewis's autobiography, "The Other Great Depression". which chronicled his lifetime struggle with substances and emotional issues. Quite a story.

One the funniest things I've seen with him was a video clip of him taking an aptitude test when he was still a young kid. It was like candid camera and it showed him reacting to the written "results" which indicated he would probably be a day laborer. I can't find it or I'd post it.

I attended an all-star tribute concert in NYCs Town Hall for Charlie Haden after his death. Konitz, Metheny, Meldau, Colley (in the hot seat!), Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, his daughter's country group, and others. Richard Lewis gave a touching and funny tribute to Charlie recounting Charlie's horrible joke telling. It was wonderful.
