RIP Rob Ford

I didn't want to be crass, but the fact that cancer got him not that stuff is a little crazy.

Those activities most likely contributed to the development of his cancer.

I haven't looked into it deeply enough to know exactly what type of rare cancer he developed, but alcohol abuse is certainly a risk factor for a number of types of cancer.

I don't have any information at hand regarding crack.

Apparently he did nothing to the cause the cancer, he just happened to be standing in the tracks as the cancer train rolled through.

Q: What role does lifestyle play in developing this type of cancer?

A: It doesn’t, as far as we know, and scientists don’t yet know the cause.
“There’s no data I’m aware of that links liposarcomas to alcohol, tobacco, anything,” said Bailey. Obesity isn’t a known risk factor either.

Interesting, thanks for that. I'll do some more research tomorrow.

But what about the ties to cancer and eating p... You know what, nevermind.

You don't know that. You know it appears suspicious, that is all.
True, only Siths deal in absolutes. However, the rest of my post is factual and Rob Ford certainly had lots of reasons to denigrate the press.

He waged a personal war against a journalist that took pictures of his house. He also had his friend and employee call in to Ford's radio show to verbally fellate Ford and denigrate his opponents multiple times without acknowledging the relationship.

Unfortunately all I know about him and I assume a vast majority of the people who know his name, is he was a real life SNL/Second City TV character. Sort of John Belusci, John Candy, Chris Farley all rolled up into one. It's nice to hear accounts of people here who knew him personally. Poor guy.

Given the article, it sounds as though he just won the cancer lottery. It happens. He probably would have died in his fifties of heart disease by looking at him if it hadn't been this rare form of cancer.

Or lived to be 1000. Sometimes stopping a hard lived lifestyle jolts the system to the point where all the nuts and bolts fall out and it turns out the only thing greasing the wheels was the stuff that everybody said would kill you.

@Hoff Kinkmeister

Please do me a favor. Rob was a friend and now he is dead. This is an RIP thread. Feel free to start a "Ford was a douche" thread, but stop posting in this one.
While I respect that, you should also respect that others might not share that personal connection and bias. This is a public thread about a public figure, you are equally free to start a "Rob Ford Hagiography" thread if you would like to not be exposed to the sometimes unsavory reality of your friend.

whatever his human fault, Ford did seem possessed of a genuine gonzo heart, and those people are the ratest and most loveable.
