RIP Robert Hunter

Brokedown Palace came into my head when I heard of Robert Hunter's death. So much respect for him and his ideals - he was brutally honest when he later talked of his disgust at the band's cocaine use and how it drove a wedge between him and his musical partner, Jerry Garcia, in the late '70s.

I can't even put into words the joy and heartfelt emotion that Hunters songs has brought to my life.

He once said that his greatest songwriting compliment came from someone who didn't even know who he was asked him, "I wonder if the person who wrote Cumberland Blues ever imagined that someone like the Grateful Dead would be playing it 100 years later?"

Fare Thee Well
